Accomplished Pose
Siddhasana·सिद्धासन·siddhāsana
Also called: Adept's Pose, Perfect Pose
Siddhasana is the practical alternative to Padmasana — most users with reasonable hip mobility can reach this seat. HYP's enthusiasm for it is partly because it stabilizes the pelvic floor without the knee demand of full lotus. Use it for pranayama practice once Sukhasana feels too unstable for long holds.
Benefits
- Most stable cross-legged seat for long pranayama and meditation
- Heel pressure at the perineum is said to activate Mula Bandha (root lock) naturally
- Lengthens the spine through structural alignment
- Accessible to many users for whom Padmasana is not yet possible
How to practise Accomplished Pose
- Sit with your legs extended straight in front of you.
- Bend the left knee and bring the left heel to rest against the soft point between the genitals and anus (the perineum).
- Bend the right knee and place the right foot on top of the left ankle. The right heel rests just above the pubic bone area.
- Rest your hands on your knees, palms up.
- Lengthen the spine, sit bones rooting, crown reaching.
- Switch which leg is on the bottom periodically — the seat is asymmetric.
- Sit on a folded blanket if your hips or knees protest.
Suggested hold: 180s · Breath: Natural
How Accomplished Pose affects your doshas
In Ayurveda the same pose lands differently depending on your constitution. This is the lens the app uses to sequence your practice.
| Dosha | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vata | Balancing | a good fit — helps settle this dosha |
| Pitta | Balancing | a good fit — helps settle this dosha |
| Kapha | Neutral | broadly neutral |
Who should avoid or modify this pose
- Don't practice with knee, ankle, or hip injury
- Skip with sciatica
- Pregnant women should use Sukhasana on a cushion instead
- Avoid with pelvic-floor pain or recent pelvic surgery
If you're pregnant, injured, or managing a condition, check with a qualified teacher or clinician before practising.
Modifications
- Place the bottom foot under (rather than against) the body if the perineum-pressure variant is uncomfortable
- Sit on a folded blanket to elevate the hips
- Use Sukhasana as an entirely acceptable substitute for meditation
- Switch which foot is on the bottom periodically to balance the hips
